Early childhood is a time of rapid growth and development. Newborn Care visits are essential in making sure our babies are healthy and progressing normally. They also provide us with the opportunity to detect any potential abnormality so they may be addressed early and efficiently. Additionally, at Newborn Care and Early Childhood Physicals we are able to administer the childhood vaccines necessary to protect our children.
At Kid Care Pediatrics in Rockville Centre, N.Y, we use the following schedule for routine visits:
- 3-5 days after birth
- 1 months
- 2 months
- 3 months
- 4 months
- 5 months
- 6 months
- 8 months
- 10 months
- 12 months
- 15 months
- 18 months
- 21 months
- 2 years
- 2 7 1/2 years
- 3 years
- Annually after that.
At each visit we measure height and weight. We also measure head circumference until age 3 years and blood pressure annually from age 3 years and onward. Hearing screens and vision screens, as well as urine tests, are done each year as the children get older.
These visits provide us an opportunity to talk. We discuss things like diet, sleep patterns, physical and cognitive development. As the children get older and continue into adolescence we address school performance and social interactions. For patients with Allergy or Asthma, it’s a great time to review together. At each visit, the children are given the opportunity to speak for themselves and express how they are feeling.
Though we can be reached at any time, and are available for sick visits, the routine Physical is great time to discuss any and all concerns about our children, answer any questions, and feel good about our children’s development.
